Of late, you would see many advertisements, programs and news about de-addiction therapy and medications. Addiction is something very alarming to the life. In Ayurveda, addiction is termed as a condition that results with social disorder, crime, offense and violence. Addictions influence the physical, emotional and psychological characters of an individual with a wrong effect. People addicted towards any substance, whether it is food or cocaine, are emotionally unstable.
Addiction is also termed as intoxication, accumulation of toxins in the body.

Food Addiction:

Too much is poisonous even if it is nectar of life! Ayurvedic principles portray this concept. Smoking, alcoholism, drugs, and even food can make us addict. The intoxication refers to a state in Ayurveda called “Madatyaya.”
The reason for refusing intoxication or addiction in Ayurveda is quite interesting. Intoxicating agents, say drugs and smoking weakens the Oja and aids in development of ama. Simply, it weakens your immune system and depletes the source of energy.
In Ayurveda, the stages of addiction are listed as follows:
  • Acute addiction

  • Abuse / alcoholism
